Being Safe With Cash App

May 10, 2018

Money transfer apps like Cash App (from Square Cash) can seem like an easy way to send someone money when you don’t have any cash on hand. We all always have our smart phones with us, so why not just swipe away the money you owe them? There are a few downfalls and dangers to using Cash App that we think you should know about.

  • Sometimes Cash App can take a LONG time to actually send or receive the money you’re waiting for, up to 10 days! Always make sure you are checking any holds on your account so you don’t exceed your available funds.
  • If a payment is cancelled partway through the process it can still appear as a hold on your account. As soon as you confirm the amount of money you intend to send a hold is placed on your account that may take just as long to clear, meaning you will not have access to those funds.
  • Cash App has a very limited customer service staff, all communications are handled through email. You will not be able to handle any disputes you may have through a phone call as they have no number to contact.

We would suggest that our members use the money transferring services we provide to ensure that all funds are as secure as possible. Inside Virtual Branch you will find options to Transfer Funds, Pay Bills, or use PopMoney. All of these allow you to securely transfer money out of your USPS FCU account.
